Yoga Instructor
Maysaa Chammout is a student of life, lives guided by her heart, and finds the most peace in nature. She found her way onto the yogic path through an extracurricular course at Wayne State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology- and a new perspective on being. Yoga taught her self-acceptance and the power of the present moment. Science proved to her that the effects of yogic techniques could be tested, and recent research has found them to be incredibly effective.
With love for both, she explored integrating Eastern philosophies with Western medicine. Maysaa started her dive into more profound knowledge with LifePower Yoga. In 2018, she began working within Henry Ford Center for Integrative Medicine, teaching patients how to reconnect with their bodies through breath and movement. Around the same time, she explored the world of kids’ Yoga at her local gym. She noticed a profound effect on their emotional and mental well-being through nurturing non-competitive experiences. Her students were allowed to be themselves without judgment and learned mindful practices they could use off the mat.
Winds of a global pandemic steered her in a new direction, and 2021, she was hired as a Yoga and Meditation Therapist at DMC Children’s Hospital. She worked individually with Hematology/Oncology and Behavioral Health patients. She combined gentle movement, breathing techniques, and mindfulness/meditation to reduce stress and anxiety, manage pain, and promote positive coping during hospitalization. Maysaa saw each patient as a whole and unique; she utilized the infinitely customizable approach of Yoga to facilitate healing using the union of mind, body, and breath. She found that Yoga complements rather than replaces Western approaches to health care and invites a space of restfulness and stability.
Her current work is with a non-profit organization, educating and empowering individuals with chronic health conditions to live healthier lifestyles. Maysaa is passionate about making a difference no matter how small and aims to create lasting change within herself that will ripple out into the world around her.
Maysaa is a student of the International Institute of Yoga Therapy with plans to graduate with her C-IAYT in 2024. She invites students to practice as they are, recognizing their abilities and limitations without judgment to discover and reach their full potential.
